Dollar Store Dessert Tray

So on a recent trip to Bed, Bath and Beyond (BBB as some say, although to me, BBB sounds like a bra size…a funny bra size, a ‘BBB’ must be the same as ‘CC’ or something right?)…ANYWAY, while helping a friend pick out some sweet living room curtains at BBB I walked past the dessert tray display and saw many pretty (and overly expensive) trays I wanted. I seriously considered buying one when a little voice in my head (voice of reason?) questioned what I was doing. I was tempted to spend almost $40.00 for something I KNEW I could re-create.  This is what I saw at the store:

BBB Dessert Tray. Retail Price: $36.99

Pretty Nice, Eh? Here’s mine:

2 Tier Dessert Tray. Cost to make: $4.50

I had the materials to do a 3 tier but I personally liked the way the 2 tier looked. It takes up less space for storage, and most of all, encourages me to put out less sweets. I love baking although I try and limit it because I. eat. it…ALL.

Materials:

Dollar Store Purchases

-2 Plates of choice from the Dollar Store.

-2 Candle holders of choice, as long as they have broad bases for stability.

-Clear glue. (I used ”Goop”. It’s fairly toxic so be careful if using and make sure you don’t get ANY on the eating surface of the plates only under the candle holders, but it’s great silicone based adhesive and perfectly clear so great for glass and you can wash the tray with no worry of it coming apart)

I don’t know that instructions are necessary I think the diagram is pretty self explanatory. My only word of advice is to make sure your plates and candle bases are evenly weighted. Check to make sure the plates will sit evenly on the  bases of the holders without rocking too much, a little is probably ok as the glue will make up for a little wiggle room.
Next time you see these trays it will be full of treats!

* I’ve also used these candle holders for another little project I’ll share later :)
