Fall Mantel {and a little bit of real life}

This past weekend marked our first weekend home in six weeks. We made the most of our time by working on our new electrical panel door. It looks great and we’re both pretty proud but you all will have to wait to see. For now I will show you the little bit of fall decorating I managed to do last night.I bought the wired leaves at the ‘ol dollar store and think they look pretty nice, especially considering I only paid $4.00 for all of them.

I used some of the leaves to put in the large apothecary-esque jars I made, again from the dollar store and stuck in a few twiggy things that are in the floor vase.

I managed to nab the large brown pumpkin at Sears this weekend for $7.99 (marked down from $24.99). I love it!

Speaking of Sears- I cashed in my Sears points this weekend to buy a new vacuum cleaner. I LOVE IT. Best money I never spent. Our basement has carpet and our vacuum didn’t seem to be working great the last few months-still suctioning but not really well. I took the entire thing apart more than once and everything looked fine so I resorted to using our small shop-vac to cleaning the carpet. This got old real fast. It has a floor attachment  but it was a pain in the rear to use. At no point did the floors look like they were seriously neglected. Wanna see something uber gross? Beware, it’s yucky.  This picture isn’t even great. It was like 40%  beyond the ”fill line”. That’s just a once over with the new vacuum. ONCE. I’m ashamed. I will now be vacuuming everyday I swear.

My Summer Mantle

Yes I realize it’s almost August and I’m just getting around to sharing this but if you knew the ‘summer’ we were having you’d sympathize. I say ‘summer’ very loosely because, well, we haven’t really had one yet. Anyways here she is:

Our wedding photo and statuette always stay on the mantel so get use to seeing them {we’re moving the digital frame when the basement is done but for now the mantel is its home}

The 2 back ‘apothecary-esque’ jars I made by gluing glass candle holders to glass vases from the dollar store. Yeah for cheap decorations!

The jars are filled with REAL shells and coral from Cuba and driftwood I collected a few weeks ago on vacation:

And finally for some color, my little green succulent that I have yet to kill and actually have shared with friends through clippings!

This poor mantel will be taken apart for something cold and wintery in no time so I’ll enjoy it while I can!
